Don't you love how sometimes you randomly pick a song to listen to, and it portrays just how you feel? This morning, I put on one of my "random" CDs, meaning it could have Evanescence, Sheryl Crow, 702, all the way to Kansas and back. What can I say, I like different styles of music, and I never know what music mood I'll be in, so I have several CDs that have several styles in one.
Anyway, I LOVE this song. People attribute many different meanings to it. It ranges from a spiritual quest to soldiers in war to people dying of a terminal illness. However you interpret this song, the ultimate message is HOPE. HOPE for the weary. HOPE for the distraught. HOPE for the confused. HOPE for all.
Here are the words. May you all feel more hopeful after reading this blog.
Love to all! ^_^
PS--thanx to Jonathan Root for introducing this song to me years ago in the Admissions Office. ^_^
Carry on Wayward Son Lyrics
Artist(Band):Kansas
Carry on my wayward son,
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more
Once I rose above the noise and confusion
Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion
I was soaring ever higher, but I flew too high
Though my eyes could see I still was a blind man
Though my mind could think I still was a mad man
I hear the voices when I'm dreamin', I can hear them say:
Carry on my wayward son,
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more
Masquerading as a man with a reason
My charade is the event of the season
And if I claim to be a wise man, it surely means that I don't know
On a stormy sea of moving emotion
Tossed around I'm like a ship on the ocean
I set a course for winds of fortune, but I hear the voices say:
Carry on my wayward son,
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more
Carry on, you will always remember
Carry on, nothing equals the splendor
Now your life's no longer empty
Surely heaven waits for you
Carry on my wayward son,
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry
Don't you cry no more

I like this song too, Kristi! Our hope is more than just wishing or some feel-good positive thinking psychology. Hope is a faith-based optimism that no one can ever take from you, and your life is a wonderful expression of hope! Faith, hope, and love: It takes all three working together – but the one that is greatest, the one that abides is love. In heaven we will see, so our faith will be complete; our hope will be realized; and, eternity will be spent basking in His extravagant love. Now that’s worth “carrying on” for! Thanks for sharing the song. It was new to me. XO
I hope Jonathan reads this post. He will be so proud to have introduced you to a song that you now love!
I actually really needed this. Thank you for sharing it. I've never heard the song before - I really liked the lyrics.
Kristi, I'm always impressed at what a deep thinker you are. Thanks for sharing this song.
It's one of mine and Kevin's favorites too. Kevin is more familiar with the group than I am. Great words. Carry on!

Oops! Don't know how that happened!
ha! I'm telling J to check it out. Somehow I am not surprised that he was the one to have tipped you off to this one.
